Story of Kelsey Briggs
Kelsey Briggs lost her life before the age of three due to Child Abuse.
Please watch/read her story and share it with others. It is a Tragic story but one that must be shared.Hopefully Kelsey's story will touch your heart and you will be willing to step up to the plate and help children who can't help themselves.
Please Read her story below...
Kelsey Briggs was born in Oklahoma on December 28,2002 after her parents Lance Briggs and Raye Dawn Smith were divorced.
Raye Dawn Smith started dating a man named Michael Lee Porter.
The first reported incident of child abuse regarding Kelsey was made on Jan.17,2005,and many more were to follow.
Raye Dawn Smith married Michael Lee Porter on April 18,2005.
On May 3,2005 Kelsey was taken out of her home by OKDHS.
May 4,2005 Kelsey was moved to her maternal Grandmother Gayla Smith.
In mid June 2005,after months of documented abuse which included a broken collarbone, multiple abrasions, new bruises and faded bruises from head to toe,and two broken legs, the doctor said Kelsey's legs were spiral fractures, which means someone twisted her little legs forcefully.Three doctors with a combined 90 years experience saw Child Abuse in Kelsey's broken legs. There were numerous court hearings but after it all on June 15,2005 Judge Craig Key sent Kelsey back to her mom and stepfather. The judge said "Kelsey's abuser was unknown."
She remained in state custody and was to be supervised by state agencies.
Her biological father Lance Briggs was in Iraq fighting for our country while his little girl Kelsey was here fighting for her life.
On October 11, 2005 she was murdered apparantly by her Stepfather Micheal Lee Porter but that is up for debate.Raye Dawn and Michael Porter were the only ones with Kelsey the afternoon she died.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the abdomen,it was ruled a Homicide.
Kelsey Briggs died just days before her father was to return from Iraq.
Two weeks later Porter was arrested on first degee murder.
Her mother was later charged with two felonies of Child Neglect and Enabling Child Abuse.
In April of 2006 Kelsey's body was exhumed for a second autopsy where sexual abuse was documented.
Not only was this child brutally beaten over a 9 month period she was also sexually assaulted.
The Stepfather's charges were amended to add the sexual abuse.
Porter and Smith divorced after Kelsey's death.
On February 2, 2007 a plea negotiation was entered and approved by the paternal family.
The stepfather plead guilty to a reduced charge of Enabling Child Abuse and received 30 years in prison.
He has no possibility of parole for 25.5 years.
Kelsey's mother Raye Dawn Smith went on trial July 9, 2007.She has since been found guilty of enabling child abuse, she will serve 27 years in prison.Without the possibility of parole for 23 years.
The court says she knew or should have known about Kelsey's abuse.
Alot of people failed Kelsey.Remember her story the next time you think a child is being abused. Please report it,if you don't, that child may suffer the same fate as Kelsey. Please don't let that happen.
A new law has been named for Kelsey in Oklahoma to prevent this type of failure in the Oklahoma State System.
Kelsey's Grandmother Kathie Briggs runs a site in Kelsey's Honor,You can find it at
http://www.kelseyspurpose.org
They are doing a lot of good things to help abused children. It is free to join, you can find more info there.

Voice of Uncertainty
Awesome clip! Speaking as one of the WGA writers on the front lines. A tribute to the heroes of the AMPTP, who continue to soldier on in the face of almost unimaginable financial confusion.

California fires rage on but crews make progress
Oct 24 - The wildfires have already caused extensive damage--- and threaten to shut down a major power transmission link to San Diego.
Weather forecasters say the fierce Santa Ana winds blowing in from the desert should begin to subside over the next 24 hours. President Bush signed a major disaster declaration for California and plans on visiting the affected areas on Thursday.
SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - Wildfires that have charred a huge swath of California and destroyed 1,300 homes burned into the night on Wednesday, but firefighters said a break in the weather had given them a chance to go on the offensive.
As night fell across the state some 15 fires were still blazing largely out of control, mostly in San Diego County. But a drop in temperatures and weaker Santa Ana winds had slowed their march toward threatened communities.
Around 9,000 men and women fought the blazes as towering flames lit up the sky. Thick smoke hung over much of the lower half of the state, raining ash over homes and cars.
"Today I can finally say its a good afternoon," San Diego County Sheriff Bill Kolender said.
The wildfires have already blackened nearly 800 square miles, destroyed 1,300 homes, claimed six lives and injured dozens of people, many of them firefighters.
President Bush, who has declared California's fires a "major disaster," triggering extra federal help, was scheduled to tour the fire areas on Thursday.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency had 1,000 people on the ground in San Diego, Sanders said. FEMA and Bush were both criticized for being slow to respond when Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region in 2005.
San Diego County, at the southern end of the state, has been hardest hit by the four days of intense fires, suffering losses in excess of $1 billion, and three of the largest fires still burned out of control there.

California fires
About 750 homes across the state have been reduced to ashes as the relentless Santa Ana desert winds continue to fan the 16 major blazes, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told reporters Tuesday afternoon.
The fires are being blamed for at least one death in the hardest hit area of San Diego County, while at least 18 firefighters have been injured in their attempts to keep evacuation paths clear, Schwarzenegger told reporters at Lake Arrowhead, where officials are co-ordinating the massive fire response teams.
